Apex Legends Battle Pass Update: Major Changes Ahead
Electronic Arts (EA) and Respawn Entertainment have unveiled significant alterations to the Apex Legends battle pass system, leading to a notable increase in the cost of seasonal content. As expected, the community’s reaction has been overwhelmingly negative.
Increased Frequency of Battle Passes in the Apex Legends
Beginning with Season 22, Apex Legends will feature two battle passes per season, one for each split. Each battle pass will be priced at $9.99. Previously, players could obtain a season-long battle pass for 950 Apex Coins (AC), the game’s premium currency, and earn enough AC through gameplay to get the next pass without additional spending.

Shift from In-Game Earnings to Real Money
While each battle pass will still reward players with 1300 Apex Coins, the significant change is that the new passes can only be purchased with real money. This effectively doubles the cost per season for those who previously used earned AC to buy passes, transforming a previously “free” experience into a substantial expense for dedicated players.

Community Reaction and Developer Response
The official announcement attempts to highlight the benefits of the new system, such as reduced “junk” rewards and a slightly cheaper premium track. However, the community remains fixated on the price increase, flooding the game’s subreddit with criticisms and predictions of the game’s downfall. Comments like “actually the worst thing ever” and “this is how Apex dies” are prevalent.

Potential for Change Based on Feedback
In the announcement, EA mentions that “this announcement may change as we listen to community feedback and continue developing and evolving our Live Service & Content.” While fans are hopeful for a reversal of these changes, this message is a standard inclusion in all Apex Legends announcements and may not indicate any forthcoming adjustments.
