Bumble Enhances Safety with New Reporting Option
Bumble is taking a significant step to keep its platform free from AI-generated profiles. On Tuesday, the dating app introduced a new reporting feature allowing users to flag profiles suspected of using AI-generated photos and videos. This addition aims to help maintain the authenticity and trustworthiness of the community.
How to Report Suspected AI-Generated Profiles
When reporting a profile, users can now select the option “Fake profile” followed by “Using AI-generated photos or videos.” This new choice is added to the existing options such as inappropriate content, underage users, scams, and misuse of someone else’s photos. By empowering users to report suspected AI-generated content, Bumble hopes to deter deceptive practices on the app.

Addressing the Rise of AI-Generated Scams
The introduction of this reporting option comes in response to the increasing prevalence of AI-generated images on dating apps. These fake profiles often aim to scam or deceive users, creating unrealistic portrayals to catfish potential matches. Bumble’s initiative seeks to curb these disingenuous practices and foster a safer dating environment.
Bumble’s Commitment to Safety
An essential part of creating a space to build meaningful connections is removing any element that is misleading or dangerous,” stated Risa Stein, Bumble’s vice president of product, in a statement to TechCrunch. “We are committed to continually improving our technology to ensure that Bumble is a safe and trusted dating environment. By introducing this new reporting option, we can better understand how bad actors and fake profiles are using AI disingenuously so our community feels confident in making connections.
Impact of Bumble’s AI Tools
This new reporting feature follows the launch of Bumble’s “Deception Detector” AI tool, which combines AI and human moderation to identify and remove fake profiles, spammers, and scammers. Since its launch in February, Bumble reports a 45% decrease in member reports of spam, scams, and fake profiles. Additionally, Bumble’s AI-powered “Private Detector” tool automatically blurs nude photos, further enhancing user safety.
Future of AI in Online Dating
While Bumble is actively combating AI-generated profiles, the company’s founder, Whitney Wolfe Herd, envisions innovative uses for AI in the future of online dating. In an interview, Herd suggested that AI “dating concierges” or assistants could potentially go on hundreds of dates on behalf of users to find the perfect match. Although this concept may be intriguing, its acceptance among users remains to be seen.
